Service inspection terms

Smog inspections follow the BAR inspection protocol. Each inspection includes BAR-protocol vehicle emissions inspection and electronic DMV certificate filing. If your vehicle fails the initial test, retest policies vary by shop — many offer a free retest window after repairs; ask your shop about its retest terms.

Payment + refunds

Fees paid at time of service. State certificate fee ($8.25) is non-refundable per California law. Inspection fees are non-refundable once performed, regardless of pass/fail.

SMS terms

By texting California Smog Check Network (for example, with the keyword SMOG or your city name), you agree to receive SMS replies to your inquiry, including answers to questions, visit confirmations, appointment reminders, and in-store offer codes provided after you have confirmed a visit. If you are a prior customer, you may also receive a one-time biennial smog-cycle service reminder (no more than 3 messages per 24-month period) based on your last inspection date on file.

No mobile opt-in information is shared with third parties for marketing. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies.

Reply STOP to opt out at any time. Reply HELP for help or contact sam@calsmognetwork.com. After opting out, you will receive one confirmation message and no further messages.

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Service warranties

Smog inspections performed using BAR-calibrated equipment by California-licensed inspectors. Vehicle repair work (test+repair locations) warranted per California Auto Repair Code §§ 9884 et seq.

Disputes

  • Request re-inspection at the same shop (free within 30 days at STAR stations if you needed repair)
  • Have vehicle inspected at another BAR-licensed station
  • File complaint with BAR at bar.ca.gov

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by California law, our liability is limited to the amount paid for the specific service. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

Governing law

These terms are governed by California law. Disputes are subject to California state courts in the county where the inspection was performed.
